One of the most difficult things you can find on your lawn is stinging insects. They can make a great day outdoors go bad in a matter of minutes. Sometimes these pests migrate from the outdoors around your home to indoors for outdoor storage and even inside your home. These stinging insects include hornets, bees, and wasps that fly around and attack anything they believe may be a threat to their home and existence. In order to keep these pests out of your home and away from your family, there are a few tips to keep in mind.
Stinging insects control starts at home with you to prevent them from coming so that they do not take up residence on your property.
One of the first things that you should do is keep the outside and inside your home clean all the time. These stinging insects are looking for areas of mess and clutter to claim as a home. If you have a pile of wood, metal, or junk lying around in your yard, hornets and wasps will be quick to claim this area for a nest. This is also true for the interior of your home. Your basement is often used as a storage area, so anytime these pests find an opening into the basement area, they are quick to nest so that they can get out of the elements. In order to keep these stinging insects from getting into your home or shed, you should make sure there are not any small cracks providing entrance to these areas. Caulking and sealing these areas will keep the scouts of each nest from locating the area and bringing back the family into your home. These insects are small and have the capability to fit into tight places. A small crack inside your basement window is enough to allow them inside and begin building a nest.
While it is customary to have cake and ice cream in your backyard for a birthday party, it is important to keep this food secure while outside. These stinging insects are attracted to sugar and will swarm around the food if it is left exposed. If you try to swat them away, they will quickly become aggressive and begin stinging everyone around them.
Inside your home, you should keep all of your sweet food tucked away in pantries and cabinets, not exposed. Should these stinging insects find their way inside your home, they will move directly towards the sweet food exposed and infest it right away. This could be problematic inside your home and be very difficult to remove once they are inside.
If you believe that you already have unwanted pests trespassing on your property, you need to first look for nests. If you have seen one or more wasp, bee, or hornet, go to that location and carefully look around for the nest. If you are outside, they can be attached to the side of a building, beneath a gutter, or below outdoor furniture. This is also true inside your home. If you believe they are in a certain area, you need to look for nests in piles of clothing, attached to furniture, or any area that is dark and undisturbed.
By setting traps in your home, stray insects that are flying around can be caught. When too many of them are caught in these traps, the nest may see the territory as a danger and move out of your home. Setting traps takes patience, but it is an effective way to have an established nest colony exit the home safely without harming anyone within.
